Shopify Fraud Prevention

Introduction

Gift Card Pro integrates with Shopify’s Fraud and Risk Analysis to help prevent potentially fraudulent gift cards from being issued. With this feature, you can configure safeguards to block gift card issuance based on the fraud risk level of an order.

When Shopify’s fraud analysis flags an order as fraudulent before our app processes it, the issued card is automatically placed on hold. The store admin will be notified by email and can review the card in Gift Card Pro to either release or disable it.

⚠️ Important – Flagging a gift card for potential fraud is not guaranteed

  • Merchants remain responsible for any disputes, chargebacks, or financial losses.
  • The flagging of a gift card as potentially fraudulent may be impacted due to delays in Shopify’s fraud status updates.
  • If a third-party app is used to determine order risk level, this may also affect the timing of fraud detection.
  • As soon as an order is flagged as fraudulent, please reach out to our support team so we can help you review and address the situation quickly.

How to Enable Fraud Prevention

  1. Visit the Gift Card Pro Dashboard.
  2. Navigate to Side Menu > Global Settings > General Tab.
  3. Scroll down to the Fraud Protection section.
  4. Select your desired fraud risk level:
  • Never
  • Medium and High Risk
  • High Risk

Additional Recommendations

We also recommend enabling Enhanced Payment Restrictions for further control over gift card usage at checkout. These features, powered by Shopify’s Payment Customization Function API, allow merchants to define specific conditions to restrict gift card usage, ensuring flexibility and alignment with store policies.
