DNS Configuration to Allow Your Domain to be Used as the From Email Address

When an email is sent to a gift recipient by Gift Card Pro, the from email address is set to postmaster@mailer.giftcardpro.app by default.

If you would like to use your domain, some additional configuration to your DNS settings on your domain registrar is required.

For more information on how to add a TXT DNS record to your domain, please review the following articles based on your service provider:

Godaddy: https://ca.godaddy.com/help/add-a-txt-record-19232\

Namecheap: https://www.namecheap.com/support/knowledgebase/article.aspx/317/2237/how-do-i-add-txtspfdkimdmarc-records-for-my-domain/

One you have found out where to edit your DNS settings, add a TXT record with the following values:

In the “host” field, enter “@”, or for subdomains, enter the first part of your subdomain.

In the “value” field, enter the following.

v=spf1 include:mailer.giftcardpro.app ~all

If you already have a SPF record set up, you will need to alter it to include both values. For example:

v=spf1 include:mailer.shopify.com include:mailer.giftcardpro.app ~all

Once complete, apply this record, and add a new CNAME record with the following values:

In the “host” field, enter:

gcpmailer._domainkey

In the “value” field, enter:

gcpmailer._domainkey.mailer.giftcardpro.app

Once thes values are entered, click save, and return to the Gift Card Pro dashboard for domain verification.

Please note, that DNS updates can take up to 24 hours to propagate across the internet, although, often times this occurs within a few minutes.

What if I want to use a gmail address?

For the email to be able to go out from a URL, ownership of the URL is required.

For example, as we own gist-apps.com, we would be able to configure our Domain Verification to be able to have emails from Gift Card Pro come from our email address at support@gist-apps.com.

Unfortunately an email address from @gmail.com or any other non-proprietary address such as @hotmail.com cannot be configured to be the sending email address. This is because ownership of the email address must be proven. This is the same with how it works when setting up from emails in Shopify: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZ2azJmTNLA

If you own your URL and set up an email address with the URL, this can then be added to both Gift Card Pro and Shopify.

In the meantime, emails would go to the recipient from this address:

postmaster@mailer.giftcardpro.app
